Residents in the McCurtain County, Okla., area will be able to continue to enjoy a historical landmark thanks to a $3,500 donation from the Arvest Foundation.

Help us fight hunger in our community.

The gift was announced recently at the McCurtain County Historical Society open house in Idabel.  Shawn Campbell of Arvest Bank was on hand to present the check.

The McCurtain County Historical Society will use the funds to replace a significant Oklahoma historical marker located near Idabel. The original Shawneetown marker was previously located along a local highway near Idabel until it was demolished in an accident several years ago.

“Thank you to the Arvest Foundation for their contribution of $3,500 to the McCurtain County Historical Society,” said Nelda Shaw, McCurtain County Historical Society director. “The foundation’s support will help to preserve and maintain the historic pillars of McCurtain County.”

“We are happy to present this donation on behalf of the Arvest Foundation to support the McCurtain County Historical Society,” Campbell said. “This donation is just one of many we have made throughout the area. It demonstrates the foundation’s ongoing commitment to history and McCurtain County’s heritage.”
