As the days get longer and temperatures climb, now is the perfect time to step outside and explore all nature has to offer. Outdoor activities can help you rid your cabin fever and improve your mental and physical health while offering adventure just around the corner. If you are looking for ways to make the most of the sunshine, here are six tips to kick-start your summer.

We can help you decide which loan is right for you.

1. Pick an outdoor hobby to help you stay active.
Getting out and staying active is as good for your body as it is for your mental well-being. If you are looking to try something new, consider cycling, hiking, running or enjoying the sunshine with some backyard yoga. Anything that will get you outside while being active and moving your body is a plus.

2. Grow seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Whether your garden is in your yard, patio or on your windowsill, gardening seasonal produce can help you stay in touch with nature, reduce stress, save money and improve your health. You can grow many plants in pots, including vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit trees, berries, ferns and shrubs. If space is limited, you can grow in containers. When gardening in containers, be sure to use soil that is rich in nutrients and drains well. You can turn your existing soil into rich soil by mixing in all-purpose garden soil found at your local gardening store. Be sure to give your plants enough water to thrive. The best way to tell if your plants need watering is by pushing a finger an inch into the soil. If it is dry, it is time to water. Be careful not to overwater. Stunted, slow growth with yellowing leaves is a symptom of overwatering.

3. Explore your own backyard!
You might have a museum, art gallery or local park right in your hometown that you have never explored –at least not in many years. Dig back into your roots and go exploring! You never know what you might find in your hometown. You may also find on your adventures new and exciting restaurants and boutique shops–stop in and support local when you have a chance.

4. Sleep under the stars.
If you are looking to get out of the city, plan an overnight campout and daytime hiking trip. Check online to see if campsites are available and take a trip into nature for some much-needed rest and relaxation! Cooking your meals outside and sleeping under the stars can be a great way to enjoy your time off without breaking the bank.

5. Take a road trip.
If you are eager to get on the open road, be safe and smart about your destination. Plan and research the location and route ahead of time. While you are traveling, pack your own snacks and drinks to save a few bucks; and if you are staying overnight, consider alternative housing options. While you are exploring the new location, find hidden and less expensive gems to enjoy rather than visiting tourist hot spots, and be sure to set a daily budget before you go!

6. Soak up the sun any way you can.
If you are spending the day at a lake or a park, be sure to make a list ahead of time detailing which items you need to bring to have an enjoyable day. By checking this list before you head out, you will be less likely to forget your sunglasses, towels, bug spray, sunscreen or lawn chair! Find a sunny spot and enjoy the weather in moderation.
