Arkansas

Pack a lunch and head out to one of the 52 state parks, including many historic battlefields. If you want to find out which of the locations is nearest you, visit the Arkansas State Park Finder* to search your area. Contact the park ahead of your visit and find out if they are offering any special Memorial Day Weekend events.

Grab your lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of fireworks and summer celebration at Lake Hamilton on May 26. Relax with your family and welcome the start of summer with this fun evening. Visit the state website for more information and directions.

Missouri

Browse and purchase local artwork at the Paseo Arts Festival* in Oklahoma City May 25-27. The event will host visual artwork as well as musical artists sharing their talents with the public. Spend the day soaking in the culture of the city and enjoying food from local restaurants.

Kansas

Honor over 300 fallen soldiers at the Avenue of Flags* Memorial Day Celebration in Garnett*, which began in 1976. Each flag represents a veteran who has passed away and honors individuals dating back to the Civil War. On Monday, May 27, a Memorial Day service will take place at 10:00 a.m., and includes a guest speaker, traditional gun salute and special wreath ceremony.

Spend the weekend in Parsons at the Katy Days Festival* May 24-26. The small, Kansas town is known for hosting the first Missouri-Kansas-Texas train in 1870, and gathers each year to celebrate during Memorial Day Weekend. The event will feature music, food vendors, a parade, kids’ activities and more.
